2007-2008 Legislative Session:
Overview
WMC is a business association dedicated to making Wisconsin the most competitive state in the nation. Our goal is to help Wisconsin companies grow and create additional jobs and attract new business to our state — because the benefits of a strong economy accrue to everyone.
The creation of meaningful, well-paying jobs provides economic security and dignity to Wisconsin citizens. A strong economy provides the tax base necessary to support government's role in educating, building infrastructure, protecting the environment, and caring for the needy. Economic growth and job creation combat social problems such as unemployment, poverty and crime.
Clearly, the top priority for business and government leaders must be to advance policies aimed at building a stronger economy for our families, our communities, and Wisconsin's future. To accomplish this, business, government, and labor must work cooperatively and steadily to ensure that Wisconsin business can effectively compete in the national and international marketplace. To be competitive, we need to take immediate steps to:
Lower Taxes
- Improve government efficiency so that we can reduce the tax burden in Wisconsin;
Reduce Regulation
- Reform the excessive regulatory structure that has built up in the state, and;
Reform the Legal System
- Respond to the litigation crisis that has emerged in recent years.
The WMC Board of Directors developed this Legislative Agenda to serve as a strategic vision on how to make our state more competitive, grow our economy, create more jobs, provide opportunity and hope for our citizens, and improve the quality of life in Wisconsin.
